The Department of Commerce was established in 1981 with a Pre-Degree Programme (Commerce IV Group) to cater to the academic aspirations of the people in the locality. With the gradual delinking of the Pre-Degree Programme, the BBS programme was introduced under the department in 1999 to develop the managerial and administrative skills of students. In 2004, the programme was renamed BBA by Kannur University, and in 2009, the Choice Based Credit and Semester System was implemented. In 2024, the department adopted the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in BBA. The programme helps students understand the fundamental principles of commerce and the business environment and learn how to apply business principles to real-world business practices.
